Senior adviseur Duurzame Mobiliteit

Switching from using fossil fuels to renewable energy has never been so urgent, but what does the energy transition mean for Arcadis?

At Arcadis, we are working on integrated solutions to kick-start a transition in mobility. This is sorely needed, because making transport more sustainable is an effective way of achieving climate objectives and reducing CO2 emissions. We want to contribute to behavioral change in the business world and we advise municipalities and other government agencies.

Sustainable Mobility in Area Development

Making mobility more sustainable is a key requirement when it comes to spatial development plans, so this is a priority for many government agencies. We help them to define effective strategies and make their ambitions a reality. Often, an important part of this is curbing the use of cars. If everyone has one or two cars parked outside their home, eventually they will no longer all fit into the neighborhood. So we explore the possibilities of opening up other ways for residents to travel; for example, by promoting alternatives such as public transport, bicycles and e-bikes. Using shared mobility (such as cars, bicycles and scooters) is also a good option, as this reduces the number of cars in the neighborhood and leads to more conscious car use.

Logistics Sector

Alongside the transition in passenger transport, such as commuting and business travel, we are also seeing a transition in the logistics sector. There is still much to be gained there in terms of sustainable mobility, not least when it comes to making urban logistics more sustainable. We are looking at how we can improve the quality of life in cities; for example, by grouping deliveries in small, zero-emission vehicles instead of needlessly driving large trucks back and forth. We are keen to use our expertise to assist government agencies and the logistics sector in successfully implementing this transition.

What Is Arcadis Doing in This Field?

We provide advice, manage projects and develop mobility concepts in the context of area development, business mobility, electric transport, shared mobility and hubs. The changes we help to bring about really do reduce consumption of fossil fuels. For example, we help companies look at how to switch their fleets from diesel to electric and are strong advocates of better charging infrastructure. These and other initiatives demonstrate our commitment to a sustainable future where new forms of mobility help to improve our living environment.
