Arcadis success at Construction Week Awards 2016

Congratulations to the Arcadis Middle East team on winning two trophies at the prestigious Construction Week Awards 2016 ceremony in Dubai last night.

Helen Bali, Project Director in our Qatar team, was chosen as ‘Engineer of the Year’ ahead of stiff competition from peers at Atkins, Aecom, Parsons and KEO (IC). Helen was recognized based on the great work that she has done with Kahramaa in Qatar, where the team she leads is helping to increase water security through the construction of a number of mega-reservoirs across the country.

Helen said: “This award reflects well on all of the people who have helped to shape my development throughout my career. I would particularly like to thank the entire team who are working with me on the mega-reservoirs project in Qatar. This has been a once in a lifetime project to be involved with, and it’s hugely gratifying to see how the work we are doing will help to provide the people of Qatar with better access to water particularly as visitors to the country continues to increase.”

The great talent within our Saudi Arabia team was also recognized, with our work with the National Water Company in Makkah selected as ‘Infrastructure Project of the Year’. This scheme involved building four of the largest steel reservoirs in the world, and has helped to significantly increase water supply in Makkah. This is enabling the city to cope with periods of increased demand on resources, like they see every year during Hajj. Amjad Al Shabatat, Project Director in our KSA business, attended the awards ceremony and collected the prize on behalf of the wider team.

Amjad said: “The reservoirs have provided Makkah with an additional water storage capacity of 760,000 cubic meters. This enabled the city to meet the water needs of the more than 3 million pilgrims who visited the city this year during the Ramadan and Hajj seasons. We’re very proud of our work on this project and it serves as a great example for other countries across the region who face similar challenges around water supply.”

The annual Construction Week Awards recognizes the teams and individuals across the region who are leaders in their fields, and who are helping to raise standards within the industry through their technical excellence, innovative thinking, and inspiring leadership.
