Conversion and development of the old Bayernoil refinery in Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt, Germany - In order to stop this expansive use of land, the sustainability strategy of the German Federal Government calls for an increased reuse or redevelopment of land. Bayernoil, an oil refining company, and the city of Ingolstadt are leading by example, supported by Arcadis. A new city district with residential areas, recreational facilities and commercial zones is to be built on the premises of the decommissioned refinery of Bayernoil. An excellent supply of spare areas and development options is thus made available to the metropolitan area of Ingolstadt.

100 football fields

equivalent of land recovered

Part of the recovered area was used to build a new stadium.
The conversion is of considerable size, covering the equivalent of one hundred football fields. Over the past ten years, an area this size was covered by new buildings every day in Germany.

This is a reference project with an exemplary character: in March 2010, a delegation from the World Bank toured the site to get first-hand information on the ground-breaking revitalization concept.
