Delivering a rural electric vehicle hub for sustainable mobility
Arcadis is delivering an electric vehicle hub, operated by SWARCO, for rural communities in Wales, UK. The outcome is a superfast EV charging hub designed to benefit local residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors to the area.
The Cross Hands electric vehicle charging hub represents strong collaboration between Carmarthenshire County Council, SWARCO, Arcadis, and the Welsh Government, using central government funding through the Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle Fund.
The EV hub features a solar canopy linked to a battery energy storage system capable of supporting up to four 50kW rapid chargers and one 150kW charger. The site has been designed to easily accommodate faster and additional chargers in the future—ready to expand as utilization grows and more people transition to plug-in vehicles.
The hub forms part of a broader series of EV infrastructure initiatives proposed by Carmarthenshire County Council in its 10-year EV infrastructure strategy, developed in collaboration with Arcadis. The strategy sets out a clear vision to promote the growth of charging infrastructure that supports the council’s goal of achieving net zero by 2030.
