Arcadis partnered with Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) to help develop Guwahati’s urban and water infrastructure programme. The joint venture forms a part of the initial steps in developing a Smart City template for India.

Guwahati is the first of 20 cities that has been targeted to launch a Smart City initiative in India. The programme will explore area based developments and prepare designs for implementation to improve infrastructure, sustainable real estate and living conditions.

The project will look at the implementation of a 6km sustainable river front along the Brahmaputra river, an area that is prone to flooding. In support of this large-scale project, Arcadis completed an integrated technical analysis of both the water quantity and quality to determine the required scope of work.

Additional work includes the preliminary design work with the use of virtual reality and 3D design services. To ensure structural safety of the embankment, Arcadis provided the analysis of the river profiles, the water velocity of the Brahmaputra river and the forces exerted on the embankments.

Improvement of the city’s drainage, implementation of sewage treatment and designing Deepor Beel, the mayor lake of the city, will contribute to obtaining a smart, attractive and safe Guwahati.
