Qatar Cultural Sports Hub

Qatar, Middle East - In recent years, Qatar has successfully hosted sporting events in a number of fields including athletics, tennis and football. The country will further build on this success when it hosts the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ and it’s also bidding to bring one of the future Olympic Games to Qatar. To celebrate these achievements and better support future programmes, Ashghal was asked to develop a vision that ultimately led to the creation of the Qatar Cultural Sports Hub.

Qatar Cultural Sports Hub

Strategically located beside the New Hamad International Airport, the Sports and Cultural Hub aims to further support Qatar’s development by attracting new visitors to the country. It also appeals to those passengers with a long layover in Doha who can easily visit the attractions via a well-connected public transport system.

Arcadis supported the delivery of this strategic masterplan with engineering and project management solutions. Our scope focused on three main parts; transforming the existing Port and Corniche area to meet Olympic standards, bringing several utilities around Celebration Park up to standards to meet the high-end requirements, and the design and engineering of a man-made lake at Salt Lake Valley, with an emphasis on making it feasible by detailing how it should be filled, flushed, and cooled.
