Hexham to Kooragang Resignalling

Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia - Improving rail capacity in NSW’s Hunter Valley coal region could only move ahead with a modern signaling system.

Delivering a modernized, contemporary, and efficient rail signalling system.

The Hexham and Kooragang rail connection is crucial to Australia’s coal exports, but to keep growing it needed to be both modernized and integrated in to the Hunter Valley rail network.

In delivering a contemporary and efficient rail system, a reduction in “signalling headways” was proposed from above 10 minutes to 8 minutes, minimal changes to line-side infrastructure and a corridor specifically tailored for coal trains destined for the Kooragang Terminal.

Given the potential impact of other imminent infrastructure, rail and road works nearby, hitting tight timelines while balancing a wide range of stakeholder interests was of tantamount importance.
