Doha, Qatar - The public works authority of Qatar is to develop a fully integrated intelligent transportation system to provide the best operational service to road users.
In line with the economic and environmental element of the Qatar National Vision 2030, whose overall aim is transform the country into an advanced society capable of achieving sustainable development, our client, the public works authority, Ashgal, is looking to develop a fully integrated, multi modal transportation system.
Our client is developing an ambitious project to connect the industrial cities of Ras Laffan, Al Khor, Mesaieed and Al Wakrah, circumventing the need to travel through Doha. The 165km transport system includes general purpose as well as truck-only facilities. Ashgal is looking for a state of the art intelligent transportation system (ITS) in order to maximize the road network’s safety, efficiency and reliability, and to provide the best operational service to all its road users.
As part of a joint venture, Arcadis is the lead engineer responsible for the design of 47km of the Outer Orbital. Our experts are designing one of the most comprehensive Freeway Management Systems in the world.
The design includes the deployment of devices to actively manage the operations of the road network. Using a combination of technologies to detect traffic conditions, Ashgal will be able to manage each late of the 47km network. Vehicle detectors and closed circuit surveillance cameras will provide updates to the Traffic Management Centre, who will then be able to provide information and dynamically control traffic through lane control signage and larger messaging systems.
Our teams collaborated on a global level to provide a comprehensive yet cost effective system for our client. We are currently working to deliver a road that is open to traffic and fully operational in time for the 2020 World Cup.
