The multinational pharmaceutical company historically used internal resources and a vast supplier base to execute site specific projects. This resulted in inefficient and unstandardized delivery of the new facilities they were building and upgrading. Due to pressures from global cost saving programs, and the desire to shift focus from non-core back to core business, the company was looking for a change.

 

It needed a leaner, more efficient way of delivering capital projects, with clear processes and standards. The company wanted to outsource non-core activities to a small base of prequalified suppliers and free up internal capacity to focus on core business.

 

Arcadis was chosen as one of the prequalified suppliers to provide construction site supervision, safety coordination services and technical documentation services, in the execution phase on small and medium sized projects, across the country.

 

Arcadis adopted a Site Based Team® approach, and seconds its choice experts to different project sites. This approach allows the team proximity and close working with the client, and provides flexibility to respond to the resource capacity demand. Additionally, the Site Based Teams® work alongside the preselected architectural and engineering firms to ensure coordinated delivery on projects.

 

For non-critical projects, Arcadis also acts as a ‘design and build’ general contractor, delivering design, engineering and construction services. The confidence built in Arcadis means the client has now entrusted Arcadis to act as ‘design and build’ general contractor for projects of a higher value. Arcadis now acts as a trusted partner to the client, enabling them to outsource a larger part of its capital expenditure program.

 

Thanks to Arcadis’ Site Based Team approach, the client’s internal organization is able to focus on overall management of its portfolio of projects. And, together with its chosen suppliers, focus on its core activity of clearly and precisely scoping individual projects.
