Sydney, New South Wales, Australia - Facilitating the redevelopment of 20 hectares of land within Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
The SICEEP site will deliver new, integrated and world-class convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities, along with a new residential and commercial district and a new hotel.
Arcadis identified early in the planning stage that being a low lying, flat site at the bottom of a large 220 ha catchment, flooding would be a major issue and design constraint for the proposed development, and had the potential to significantly affect the developable area and development mix of the site.
Tackling a very complicated range of issues in a very short deadline, Arcadis undertook a comprehensive flood study and model for the proposed development. Arcadis also challenged a number of key assumptions and methodologies within another consultants’ model of the existing site condition. As such, Arcadis developed their own flood model for the existing site conditions.
The beneficial outcome was that the Arcadis flood study resulted in flood levels in key areas of the site, that were up to 500mm lower than that suggested by the previous study. This allows floor levels to be significantly lower providing better development outcomes for the client and the future end users of the SICEEP development.
