Arcadis, through one of its predecessor firms Freeman Fox, established a reputation for skilled engineering services built on the company’s experience helping to deliver the complex structure over 80 years ago. 49 meters wide, the Bridge is supported by steel cross girders suspended on hangers from the 134 meter high arch in tandem with massive granite faced abutment towers founded on bedrock.
Designed to adapt to a dynamic city, the Bridge has been able to seamlessly expand capacity over the decades to now offer eight vehicle lanes carrying around two million cars across it each day, as well as two train lines, a cycleway and upgraded pedestrian access-and with the flexibility to grow yet again.
