Increase in Museum SpaceAs a LEED silver certified addition, it is a model of sustainability, incorporating state-of-the-art technology. Most notably, the carefully engineered whole-roof shading device comprises project and site specific computer-modeled blades oriented to filter daylight into upper level galleries. This shading saves electricity consumption, controls heat gain and shields the artwork. Transparent exterior walls consist of a structural double skin glazing system which meets temperature and humidity conditions required for art, and surpasses energy code requirements. The modern wing increased museum space by 33%. Art and museums breathe life into cities and Arcadis is proud to have provided project management services for multiple aspects of the museum, including the 650-foot-long bridge that connects the third floor to Millennium Park, one of Chicago’s most renowned attractions. The Art Institute helps draw tourists and locals alike to the neighborhood and the city.
