The Second Coentunnel

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - Helping to alleviate traffic in the Greater Amsterdam Area of 2.4 million citizens. The Second Coentunnel Project is a cornerstone of a series of infrastructure enlargement projects to improve the mobility of and access to the greater Amsterdam Area. It addresses bottleneck problems which affect security on the road and have a negative impact on the environment, contributing to the greater problems of lack of mobility and climate change.

A new connection for a less congested Amsterdam

Expansion tunnel

The expansion of the Coentunnel will be completed by constructing and immersion of a highway tunnel close to the existing tunnel. Also included is a rejuvenation of the first Coentunnel, including all tunnel technical and safety installations. Reconstruction of all surrounding highway infrastructure, interconnects and 10 kilometers of sound barriers will be completed. This will allow inhabitants to move in and out of Amsterdam more sustainably and securely.
