Urban planning, landscape architecture, and urban design services

Cities are changing rapidly, driven by population growth, climate resilience needs, and rising expectations for livability. At Arcadis, we meet these challenges with integrated planning, landscape architecture, and urban design solutions that foster sustainability and human connection. Through our combined expertise, we design sustainable, equitable, and nature-friendly places that will last for generations.

Sustainable and future-ready urban planning solutions

Today's urban design is moving beyond aesthetics to create practical, resilient, and future-ready spaces that improve quality of life. This means weaving sustainability, urban resilience, and digital intelligence into communities from the earliest planning stages.

Municipalities and developers face pressure to deliver projects that benefit both people and the planet. This requires a partner who understands how urban spaces can serve multiple functions, like parks that defend against floods or buildings that generate power.

The goal is a fundamental shift toward nature-positive solutions that halt and reverse biodiversity loss while accelerating a net-zero future, setting a new standard for community development. Advanced digital tools—AI, predictive modeling, and data analytics—unlock precision and efficiency, but must be applied with a human-centered lens to avoid technology-first environments that overlook real needs.

Delivering sustainable and high-performance urban developments

We bring ambitious urban solutions to life, solving complex challenges and ensuring communities thrive.

Vaughan Metropolitan Centre

We provided the urban planning and design master plan to transform a low-density suburb into a vibrant downtown. Our landscape architecture team designed Revel Park, a central public amenity that also functions as blue-green infrastructure and is engineered to manage stormwater during extreme floods. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is expected to house over 20,000 residents and employ more than 7,500 workers.

The Christian Science Plaza

Our work for the Christian Science Plaza is an example of our landscape architecture and heritage restoration expertise. Our team led the complex restoration of this iconic 14-acre plaza, ensuring the solution was both technical and human-centric. We also re-engineered the leaking reflecting pool, reducing potable water use by 75%, and improved accessibility and lighting. This transformed the space into a sustainable and inviting public hub.
