Arcadis Wins Quantity Surveying Team of the Year and Project Management Team of the Year at the RICS Awards 2020 Southeast Asia

  • Arcadis project teams win two highly competitive awards at RICS 2020 South East Asia, reflecting their commitment to digital innovation and sustainability.
  •  Awards celebrate top industry talent and the projects that have the greatest impact on their local communities

Arcadis Singapore won the award for Quantity Surveying team of the year for its work on the development of Funan DigitaLife Mall, and Project Management & Building Consultancy team of the year for the Ayer Merbau Phase 2 Reclamation project.

The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in the built environment and recognize teams and individuals who have contributed to the community and the development of the profession.

Quantity Surveying Team of the Year

Arcadis played a crucial role in the redevelopment of Funan Mall, embracing technology to achieve cost-effective, timely and high-quality project delivery. This integrated development offers a combination of retail, office and serviced apartments, and is designed to appeal to digitally savvy consumers in a sustainable and creative environment.

The transformation of the former 31-year-old mall was filled with many complexities including phasing requirements, cost apportionment methodology, and underground pedestrian link, incorporation of smart features, an urban farm and kinetic wall. Through close collaboration and strong working relationships with the client and contractors, all contract packages were delivered within budget and backed by effective cost estimates.

Project Management Team of the Year

The Ayer Merbau Reclamation project is part of the latest expansion on Jurong Island which will reclaim 35 hectares of land at Ayer Merbau. Arcadis was appointed to provide project management, construction management, employers representative and contract management & administration services.

The team used drone technology to inspect areas of reclaimed land, enhancing the surveillance of the project’s health and safety and producing more accurate and reliable results. Arcadis conducted pilot studies using drones for volumetric surveys in sea vessels, which improved overall productivity and enhanced health & safety of site staff.

Furthermore, Arcadis played an important role in minimizing the environmental impact of the project by working with partners to support the use of excavated fill materials from rail projects and other construction sites which accounted for 54% of the reclamation material. Arcadis was actively involved in identifying suitable sources of recycled materials, coordinated transportation and delivery to site. The team also coordinated with the environmental consultant to enforce an environment management and monitoring program to ensure the reclamation activities do not cause harm to the marine environment.

Commenting on the two awards, Managing Director for Singapore, René Hillig, said: “It is an honor for us to have won both the project management and the quantity surveying categories and to have been able to do so by demonstrating our use of new technologies, with sustainability at the heart of what we do. I am very proud of our teams’ commitment and innovation that has delivered exceptional outcomes for our clients and their focus on improving the quality of life for the communities we are working in.”
