The project includes upgrades to existing rail tracks and stations, a new rail section between Veendam and Emmen, and potential new stations along the route. Arcadis will help ProRail assess route and station options, compare alternatives, prepare decision-making materials and support public participation, with the aim of identifying a preferred solution by the end of the exploration phase.

For passengers, businesses and communities, the Nedersaksenlijn is intended to make travel across the northern and eastern Netherlands faster, easier and more reliable. Better rail connections are expected to improve access to jobs, education, health care and services, while supporting economic development and future housing growth around stations.

Arcadis’ role is focused on reducing complexity in the early planning stage of a major infrastructure program. The company will combine rail engineering, environmental assessment, stakeholder engagement and program management to help ProRail evaluate what is technically feasible, affordable and acceptable to local communities and public authorities.
