Reducing Construction Fatalities in Kuala Lumpur

Introducing Super Vision

During Deep Orange in Kuala Lumpur, a specialist team was formed to address how the city can reduce the number of construction fatalities working at height.

The team comprised of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia, Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) Malaysia, Mitrajaya Holdings Berhad, Arcadis, InvestKL, IBM and MobGen. The team also conducted 1 hour interview sessions  with Subject Matter Experts from KLIA Holdings Berhad, Lendlease Malaysia, TOK Lan Services & University Technology MARA (UiTM).

Two key problems were identified to contributing to a high fatality rate on construction sites: workers’ low safety awareness and lack of site supervision. Therefore, a solution was created called Super Vision.

Super Vision is a digitally- enabled monitoring tool for construction sites that supports safety officer effectiveness. Equipped with applications such as drones and safety camera capturing, the platform allows for real-time live data exchange to monitor safety on sites. This helps improve decision making around safety and overall reduce the number of fatalities. The concept was tested on the famous TRX site with positive feedback received.
