Fernando Pasquel, Senior Vice President, National Director – Stormwater & Watershed Management at Arcadis, has been named 2023 Industry Icon by Stormwater Solutions magazine. Pasquel has been with Arcadis for more than a decade.
The magazine highlights the beginnings of Pasquel’s 40-year career, and how an early desire to become a transportation engineer turned into a passion for water.
In the article, co-workers and industry representatives praise the leadership and accessibility Pasquel has brought to his profession. An enthusiastic collaborator, he said it’s the people and the teams you build that matter.
“If you don’t have those trusting relationships, you’re not going to be able to really make a difference,” he told Katie Johns, Editor-in-Chief, Stormwater Solutions & Water Quality Products.
“Fernando is well-regarded in the stormwater industry, and we are honored to name him our 2023 Industry Icon,” Johns said. “He is a proven leader and mentor and is involved in many aspects of the industry, which are all traits we look for in an Industry Icon.”
“Receiving the Industry Icon award is truly an honor and I consider this an award for all Arcadians,” Pasquel said. “Professional achievements are measured in increments of success that are the result of not only individual effort but also teamwork. I would like to thank all those who have directed, mentored and worked with me during my career, especially the members of the Stormwater & Green Infrastructure Community of Practice who are improving quality of life and contributing to making Stormwater a true utility operation.”
Pasquel was previously Vice President, Water Resources Director, Eastern U.S. at Michael Baker International; Vice President, Global Technology Leader for Stormwater and Flood Control Services at CH2M Hill (Jacobs); and Chief, Watershed Management Division, Department of Public Works for Prince William County, VA.
He is the recipient of many industry awards and has held various volunteer positions for the Water Environment Federation (WEF), including Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Stormwater Institute. He currently serves as Co-Chair of WEF's Resilience Subcommittee that falls under the organization's Stormwater Committee.
