Arcadis selected to provide services for $2.3 Billion Calcasieu Bridge Project in US

  • Arcadis’ key client program and global experience delivering design, environmental, and permitting services influence winning strategy.

May 28, 2025 – Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions, has been appointed to support design work for the I-10 Calcasieu Bridge Improvements Project in Louisiana, US.

Working as part of a joint venture (JV) with Janssen and Spaans Engineering Inc., Modjeski and Masters, and Huval and Associates, Inc. (known as the Calcasieu Design Partners), the team will support Louisiana Bridge Builders, a construction joint venture between Arcadis’ key client Acciona and Sacyr Construction. The project is overseen by the concessionaire, Calcasieu Bridge Partners (Acciona, Sacyr, and Plenary), in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, a key client of Arcadis.

The replacement of the seventy-year-old Calcasieu River Bridge will revive a vital connection between the Louisiana cities of Lake Charles and Westlake. With a project cost valued at $2.3 billion, the Calcasieu Design Partners will upgrade a crucial five-and-a-half-mile stretch of I-10, delivering enhancements to improve safety, connectivity, and sustainability.

Over eight years, Arcadis’ scope of work for the project includes updating existing interchanges and roadways. Pulling on expertise from across North America, the Netherlands, and our Global Excellence Centers in India, Romania, and the Philippines, Arcadis will deliver a wide range of specialized intelligent mobility, engineering, and design services to support the successful execution of the project, including:

  • Environmental studies and permitting;
  • Traffic engineering, including the development of a Transportation Management Plan and the design of permanent signage, signals, and pavement markings;
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS);
  • Structural design for sign support structures, roadway and drainage; and
  • Bridge design for the I-10/I-210 flyover ramp and hydraulic modeling for the main span bridge.

Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, said: “The Calcasieu River Bridge has served the region for 70 years, but as it nears the end of its lifespan, the need for intelligent, modern, and sustainable solutions is more critical than ever. At Arcadis, we have a proven track record of delivering transformative infrastructure projects worldwide, from the WestConnex road program in Sydney to the Hudson Tunnel in New York and the UK’s Lower Thames Crossing. By drawing on our global expertise, we are well-positioned to design a resilient, future-ready transportation network that enhances safety, improves connectivity, and drives long-term economic growth.”
