London, 25 May 2021 – Arcadis has been appointed to provide project and cost management services to deliver a world class Cancer Research Centre in Manchester.
The new 25,000 m2 building, currently under construction on the site of the Paterson building which suffered fire damage in April 2017, is a partnership between The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, The University of Manchester (UoM) and Cancer Research UK. It is situated at the heart of an extensive cancer research/service ecosystem, which includes vital clinical facilities, and will be fully operational in early 2023.
As well as creating a world-class transformational life science facility, the new Cancer Research Centre will bring together the largest concentration of scientists, researchers, doctors and nurses in Europe, and enable them to collaborate and accelerate vital research and care for cancer patients.
It will also house a centre of excellence for biomarker discovery and facilitate the co-location of the UoM’s and The Christie’s joint-appointed academic clinician scientists and research-active clinical consultants, alongside laboratory-based researchers from the Trust.
Ian Aldous, Senior Director at Arcadis, said:
“We are proud to be working on this world class transformational life science facility and delighted to be given the opportunity to showcase our science experience. The project certainly reflects our purpose of improving quality of life, as well as demonstrating our depth of experience of the sector, and more specifically, life science delivery.”
