Sydney, 5 May 2022 - Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads has awarded Arcadis a multi-million dollar contract to provide design, construction, testing and commissioning, and completion review, verification and certification of the project works for the third stage of the Gold Coast Light Rail project.
Stage 3 involves the delivery of a 6.7km extension south of the existing tram network linking Helensvale to Burleigh Heads and providing eight additional stations. Works in this world-class public transport system will support the Gold Coast and its continuing growth over the next two decades.
APP have a longstanding and highly collaborative relationship with Arcadis. The synergies between our organisations have been formed over many years of working across some of our nation’s largest infrastructure projects including rail, light rail, tunnelling and highway projects in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Western Australia.
Belinda Virant, Managing Director of the Transportation business at Arcadis Australia, said: “Arcadis is proud to support Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads on the third stage of the Gold Coast Light Rail project.
"The Gold Coast and wider southeast Queensland is a thriving region requiring modern transport options to support swift mobility for those living, working and travelling in the area. This will be especially important during peak periods such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The Gold Coast Light Rail System is an important piece of infrastructure to reduce travel time and improve network efficiency in response to population growth in southeast Queensland.
Independent Verifier services commenced in June 2021 under an early works agreement with major works commencing this month and an expected completion date in 2025.
