Arcadis, the leading data driven global Design & Consultancy organisation for natural and built assets, will deliver the climate change adaptation strategy for Bradfield City – Australia’s first new city in 100 years, located in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
The engagement, commencing in June 2025, will enable the Bradfield Development Authority to deliver on their long-term sustainability and resilience objectives that form part of the city’s Master Plan. Leveraging climate resilience and built environment expertise, Arcadis, along with partners Kaizen and Lecroma, will create adaptation pathways that optimise the opportunity to integrate resilience thinking into all aspects of the City’s development.
Tim Watson, Principal Sustainability Consultant at Arcadis, said: “Western Sydney is one of Australia’s most exciting and fastest growing regions. It is a place of rapid growth, culture and opportunity. It’s also a region already exposed to many significant climate related threats, from the impacts of recent floods, bushfires and the consistently record-breaking challenge of urban heat.”
“We look forward to working with Bradfield Development Authority and our partners on this impactful project to create effective, responsible adaptation strategies which are critical to the City’s resilience to the unavoidable impacts of climate change.”
Chris Williams, Managing Director of Kaizen said: “We are thrilled to partner with Arcadis to build capability and embed climate risk adaption and resilience into Australia’s first new city in over 100 years.”
Greg Ley, Managing Director of Lecroma, said: “Bradfield gives Western Sydney a once-in-a-century chance to show how climate resilience and community prosperity can grow together. Our work will create practical actions that safeguard people, place and culture for decades to come.”
Spanning 114 hectares, Bradfield is designed with sustainability and connection to Dharug Country at its heart. It will deliver new economic opportunities, 10,000 homes and 20,000 jobs for Western Sydney. Bradfield is one of Australia’s largest urban development projects and the first major city to be built in over a century.
The win marks another project in Arcadis’ history of delivering technical and strategic projects in Western Sydney. From climate risk and adaptation plans in the redevelopment of Parramatta to design of the Sydney Metro and delivery of Western Sydney Airport, Arcadis has contributed significantly to the continued growth and transformation of Sydney’s vibrant West.
