The Nature Conservancy’s Los Angeles Urban Conservation Program Receives 2018 Arcadis Pro-Bono Award

Project Aims to Enhance Sustainability Measures Along the Los Angeles River

LOS ANGELES, June 13, 2018 – Arcadis (EURONEXT: ARCAD) today announced The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as a recipient of its 2018 Pro Bono Award, which exemplifies passion for improving the quality of life across the United States and Canada and showcase how the company is partnering with other organizations to give back to the communities where the companies live, work and play.

The award focuses on an effort by TNC to turn “gray to green” in the second largest city in the United States – Los Angeles.

The Nature Conservancy’s Urban Conservation Program promotes the use of natural infrastructure to solve pressing urban environmental challenges such as stormwater management and includes a goal to enhance biodiversity in urban areas. The group is working on policy, financing, and science solutions and recently conducted an exercise to select a project site near the Los Angeles River, where it has a permeable bottom due to groundwater upwelling, as well as significant vegetation.

By utilizing natural infrastructure instead of traditional gray infrastructure, TNC hopes to improve water quality and reintroduce nature back to urban areas where it has been absent for decades. Arcadis is proud to be part of this exciting work and looks forward to a strong partnership with The Nature Conservancy moving forward.

“The Nature Conservancy and Arcadis are tackling complex issues to advance urban sustainability, protect the environment and enhance the future wealth of our natural resources across Los Angeles”, said Jason Pelletier, Land Conservation Program Director for the Conservancy in California. “We are honored to receive their 2018 Pro Bono Award and look forward to growing our working relationship with Arcadis moving forward.”

"We commend The Nature Conservancy for their tireless efforts to provide benefits to both people and nature throughout Greater Los Angeles, and for receiving an Arcadis Pro Bono Award, said Macaria Flores, Arcadis city executive for Los Angeles. “Through this alliance with The Nature Conservancy, we look forward to continuing to serve the community by providing solutions that enhance sustainability, and ultimately the quality of life for Southern Californians.”
