Demonstration validated commercial-scale PFAS destruction performance and established a pathway for broader federal and commercial deployment.
Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets, today announced the successful completion of its role in a U.S. Department of Defense PFAS destruction demonstration program funded by the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) in partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU).
The project demonstrated the effectiveness of advanced PFAS destruction technologies at commercial scale and validated a regional treatment hub model designed to accelerate deployment across federal and commercial markets. As part of the program, Arcadis partnered with 374Water to demonstrate the company's AirSCWO™ 6 supercritical water oxidation technology for the destruction of PFAS-containing waste streams. Arcadis also served in a central project oversight, coordination, and program management role, supporting the evaluation of multiple destruction technologies and helping establish a scalable framework for managing concentrated PFAS residuals.
The demonstration produced strong results, confirming the ability of AirSCWO™ technology to effectively destroy PFAS across a range of real-world waste streams. The project was designed not only to evaluate treatment performance, but also to prove that PFAS destruction can be successfully implemented through centralized regional treatment hubs that reduce logistical complexity and disposal costs while enabling large-scale deployment.

Building on the success of the demonstration, Arcadis and 374Water plan to continue collaboration on future government and commercial PFAS projects, combining 374Water's AirSCWO™ technology, operating capabilities, and ongoing technology development with Arcadis' PFAS expertise, federal and commercial market access, client relationships and program delivery capabilities. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the deployment of scalable PFAS destruction solutions across a variety of applications, including aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), impacted biosolids, remediation residuals and PFAS-impacted water streams.
