  • The NAIOP GTA Real Estate Excellence Awards recognizes the most prestigious standards of achievement within the commercial real estate development industry.
  • The design targets international LEED Gold certification, featuring a green roof and embodied carbon preservation.

Toronto, November, 2023 – Arcadis (EURONEXT: ARCAD) has won the NAIOP Real Estate Excellence Award - Office Development of the Year for its design of the office building located at 65 King Street East in Toronto, Ontario. Developed for Carterra Private Equities, the building reflects a commitment to sustainability, targeting international LEED Gold/Platinum certification. Standing at 18 stories, Google Canada is set to occupy approximately 400,000 square feet of next-generation office space with additional retail space available at grade.

The building’s design centers on sustainable principles and employee wellbeing while reflecting the vibrant financial district in which it is located. A few of the sustainable features include indoor bike parking and shower facilities, car sharing in the below-grade parking, and green roofs on the exterior.

Consideration of the site’s heritage status was essential to the building’s design. Partnering with heritage architects Goldsmith Borgal & Company and WZMH, as the Architect of Record, Arcadis led the design and introduced several solutions to preserve this historical character, meet Toronto’s Heritage Preservation Services requirements, and integrate elements of modern design to reflect the building’s revival. The building consists of a three-story podium that integrates into the façade of several existing buildings using stone that complements the surrounding heritage architecture. Above the podium, a modern glass tower offers natural light and expansive views of the city and Lake Ontario.

The building’s base is comprised of a three-story podium which integrates the heritage buildings occupying the site with the modern glass tower above.

“The recognition our design has received is a result of our team’s commitment to excellent design principles that push the standard of office design while preserving the character of the community the building resides within,” said Mansoor Kazerouni, Global Director, Architecture and Urbanism at Arcadis.

The NAIOP recognition adds to the growing number of awards Arcadis has recently received for its architecture and urbanism expertise, including Building Design & Construction’s ranking of Arcadis as the second top retail sector architecture and architecture engineering (AE) firm for 2023.

NAIOP’s GTA Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards occur annually, recognizing the most prestigious standards of achievement within the commercial real estate development industry throughout Toronto and its surrounding areas.
