Australia - Arcadis, the leading global Design & Consultancy for natural and built assets, is delighted to announce that Caroline Evans, Principal Economist from our Melbourne Infrastructure Advisory team has been appointed to the position of Chair Technical Committee 1.4 (TC 1.4) Climate Change and Resilience of Road Network, as part of the next World Road Association (PIARC) cycle commencing 2020-2023.
Resilience is of vital importance to cities, ensuring transport and supporting business continuity and undisrupted services during shocks and stresses, and in today’s uncertain world, resilience has never been more important. PIARC provides a major platform in the exchange of knowledge on roads and road transport policy and practices within an integrated sustainable transport context.
Caroline is currently an Australian representative and Working Group leader for the Technical Committee E.1 Adaptation Strategies and Resilience for the current 2016-2019 cycle (Technical Committee E.1 pictured below). She has led state-of-the-art case study analysis of adaptation strategies and methodologies to increase the resilience of road infrastructure at the policy, strategic, system level and project-specific level; and contributed to the refinement of an International Climate Change Adaptation Framework for Road Infrastructure.

Caroline chaired a technical session and presented at the 26th World Road Congress: Connecting Cultures, Enabling Economies (6th – 11th October), which aimed to share worldwide techniques, innovations, trends and developments, best practices and experiences in the fields of road, infrastructures and transport between Ministers, governments, private sector, road and transport administrations and organizations, academics, solutions’ providers, experts and practitioners from all countries across the world.
