Arcadis APP and SMEC appointed to WestConnex New M5 Project

New South Wales - In association with APP and SMEC, Arcadis has been appointed to provide Independent Certifier services for the WestConnex New M5 Project.

"Over the last decade Arcadis, with its partner APP, have established a reputation as the pre-eminent provider of Independent Certification services around Australia." Malcolm McDowall, Managing Director for Environment & Project Services.

Expected to open to traffic in late 2019, WestConnex will link the M4 and M5 motorway corridors via tunnel and connect Sydney’s west and south west with its international gateways and key places of business. The New M5 design and construction project will run from Beverly Hills and includes a tunnel from Kingsgrove on the existing M5 East to a new interchange at St Peters. The link will relieve road congestion, improve travel times and increase reliability and safety for all motorists.

Malcolm McDowall, Managing Director for Environment and Project Services stated: “Over the last decade Arcadis, with its partner APP, have established a reputation as the pre-eminent provider of Independent Certification services around Australia. Our team has a track record in delivering significant projects such as Sydney Light Rail, North West Rail Link SVC, Princes Highway Gerringong Upgrade, Princes Highway Foxground & Berry Bypass and Pacific Highway Nambucca Heads to Urunga. This project adds to those credentials, and we are looking forward to contributing to this significant project.’’

APP’s head of infrastructure, Scott Johnston, echoes Mr McDowall’s sentiments, “With this latest appointment we are now engaged as Independent Certifier on all of the major tunnel infrastructure projects in Sydney, and the major NSW government infrastructure projects awarded in the last 12 months. It is a testament to both the importance of the IC role on projects of this scale, and the strength of the partnerships we have with Arcadis and SMEC and the performance of our teams to date.”

Dan Reeve, General Manager – Transport, SMEC added  “SMEC Australia is one of Australia’s leading highway and transportation engineering consultancies. SMEC’s origins date back to the Snowy Mountains Scheme which was then Australia’s largest infrastructure project. Today, we are proud to be part of another major infrastructure project, this time in partnership. Besides delivering the detailed design for many of Australia largest transport infrastructure project, SMEC also has a significant track record in delivering Independent Certification on projects such as Legacy Way Tunnel in Brisbane, CLEM 7 Tunnel in Brisbane, and the Victorian and Sydney Desalination Plants. With the award of this project SMEC now has significant roles in the delivery of each stage of the WestConnex Motorway Projects.”
