Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia - Arcadis, the leading Design & Consultancy firm for natural and built assets, has been appointed as Independent Reviewer covering the Design, Construction and Toll road Completion phases, and a two year Toll road operation for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) project.
The Australian and Queensland Governments are delivering the $1.6 billion TSRC, which will run to the north of Toowoomba, from the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa in the east to the Gore Highway at Athol in the west. The new road will save up to 40 minutes in travel time for heavy vehicles compared to travelling on the existing Range Crossing, improving freight efficiency and driver safety, and enhancing community amenity by removing heavy vehicles from the main thoroughfare through town.
The TSRC involves the construction of 41km of new road and will include an 800m viaduct over the railway line, significant cuts and fills including a 30m deep cutting at the top of the range, continuity of the New England Highway via a bridge over the cutting, and major structures including multi-lane bridges and several grade separated interchanges. Construction will commence this year, with the project reaching completion in late 2018.
Arcadis’ Managing Director for Environment Project Services, Malcolm McDowall, is delighted to be working with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Nexus Infrastructure to deliver this landmark project. ‘’This appointment demonstrates the team’s leadership position for Independent Assurance services, having previously worked on the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade- Dinmore to Goodna project and the Tugun Bypass. We are excited to be involved in this innovative project that seeks to deliver real benefits for Toowoomba and the regional road users’’.
