Many Arcadians are taking part in the multi-year project to transform Amsterdam’s financial district, the Zuidas, into a vibrant business, commercial, and residential area. The City decided to incorporate its reputation for being a tolerant and open society, into the revamp of this important part of town. The goal was to create a permanent symbol of diversity and inclusion that is seamlessly integrated into the new built environment of the Zuidas.

Senior Architect Designer Marianne van Lochem is our integral design lead for our work on Amsterdam South station, at the Zuidas. Marianne designed a canopy for a set of steps on the Zuidas, which includes the Progress Pride Flag. Her “Rainbow Steps” were selected by residents as the best design to realize as part of the renovation of the financial district’s mobility hub.

Watch this video to learn more about what drove Marianne to design the Rainbow Steps.
