Visiting sites, assessing projects and analyzing data can be time consuming and difficult to comprehend. To eliminate these challenges, Arcadis is using augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR).

Using AR/VR expertise and technology, Arcadis helps our clients observe, adjust and interact with objects that are not yet in place, or explore an entire location without being physically present.

AR/VR is quickly becoming an indispensable tool for decision making. Eliminating the need to visit sites, stakeholders can attain information, detect issues and mitigate risks before they occur, all from their own office. 3D built-to-scale models, 360-degree photos, or live-stream video calls can be marked up and edited in real-time, to communicate changes with the rest of the team in a highly visual and interactive way.

Our AR/VR expertise includes:

  • On-Site Augmented Reality: AR brings the power of BIM and 3D models to the jobsite. Paired with Microsoft HoloLens or a mobile device, our teams see how a digital design model fits with real-world conditions. Seeing exactly how the design content will fit within the physical space, inspectors can detect and resolve issues quickly, minimize rework and associated costs.
  • Virtual Reality Experiences: VR immerses users in a simulated or photo-captured environment, and allows viewers to engage with the visualization. Using a smartphone with clip-on VR lenses, stand-alone wireless headsets, or other equipment, VR transports people to places and sites that have not been built yet, from anywhere they happen to be located. Whether your team wants to fully understand a site, re-design an asset, collaborate on a design update or share progress with stakeholders, VR makes it possible.
  • Mobile & Wearable Communication: Using real-time videoconferencing with handheld devices or durable hands-free headsets, Arcadis connects remote field staff, subject matter experts and clients to complete inspections and discuss projects virtually. Regardless of their physical location, the expert or client can see a live video stream from the field and use AR to digitally annotate the site, provide expert guidance and communicate with field personnel. Whether teams use this technology to evaluate assets or mitigate safety concerns, this capability provides a quicker and safer alternative to traditional communication.
  • 360-Degree Reality Capture: Using 360-degree cameras, Arcadis rapidly collects images that capture a complete site view. These images can be used as interactive virtual site-walks, VR training experiences or time-lapses to monitor progress. Teams can also embed information, documents and notations within virtual site models. This interactive platform helps people safely and efficiently manage construction work, safety inspections, site planning and more.
