Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality

Emerging technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality are transforming the way we experience our natural and built assets. These digital technologies provide more robust data visualizations, more interactive information, more transparent communication and can be experienced from practically anywhere.

Visiting sites, assessing projects and analyzing data can be time consuming and difficult to comprehend. To eliminate these challenges, Arcadis is simplifying our clients’ experiences with augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR).

Using augmented and virtual reality expertise and technology, Arcadis helps our clients observe, adjust and interact with objects that are not yet in place, or explore an entire location without being physically present. AR/VR immerses partners, clients, stakeholders and the community into interactive experiences across the natural and built environment.

AR/VR is quickly becoming an indispensable tool for decision making. Eliminating the need to visit sites, stakeholders can attain information, detect issues and mitigate risks before they occur, all from their own office. 3D built-to-scale models, 360-degree photos, or live-stream video calls can be marked up and edited in real-time, to communicate changes with the rest of the team in a highly visual and interactive way.

To leverage AR/VR at the right moments in a project, Arcadis takes a comprehensive approach toward data collection, management and visualization. We’re passionate about making sure our clients have all the information they need throughout the project lifecycle and embracing digital technologies enables faster, safer and more informed management of our clients’ natural and built assets.

Our AR/VR expertise includes:

  • Remote Expert: Using a real-time visual link between remote field sites and office staff, our teams use hands-free augmented reality technology to edit and mark-up sites virtually. Office staff can quickly show field staff exactly which improvements need to be made where, and vice versa. Whether teams use this technology to evaluate assets or mitigate safety concerns, this capability provides a quicker and safer alternative to traditional safety assessments.
  • Reality Capture: Using 360-degree or 3D cameras, Arcadis collects images that capture a 360-degree view that can be viewed as a virtual site-walk or a time-lapse. Adding in editing capabilities, teams can remotely create interactive floor plans with embedded additional information, documents and notations. This interactive imagery enables clients to more efficiently and compliantly manage safety inspections, built assets and more.
