Handling Cerexagris water so they can focus on production

The Netherlands, Europe - Using in-depth knowledge on industrial waste water processes and environmental permitting, Cerexagri assures itself of a fully compliant waste water treatment and discharge. This releases the burden of this secondary process and gives it a License to Operate. As a result, Arcadis enables Cerexagri to focus on what they do best: producing crop protecting agrochemicals.

Compliant waste water treatment plant

Cerexagri is a subsidiary of United Phosphorus Ltd. (UPL) and is a leading global producer of crop protection products. Historically, Cerexagri produces EBDC-based formulations in bulk, for control of fungi. Just recently, a new production facility was commissioned to produce a large variety of liquid agrochemicals in small volumes, targeting not only fungi but also other organisms.

The produced wastewater is treated in an on-site wastewater treatment plant. The plant operations are stable and meet effluent standards; however, as any industrial plant, it has to deal with fluctuations in wastewater flow and composition resulting from production process variations. The start-up of the new production facility resulted in the introduction of a large variety of components on site. This required a change in the discharge permit as well as additional treatment measures and testing.

Arcadis has a long-term relationship with Cerexagri, acting as a trusted advisor to solve their non-core water issues. With respect to the above, Arcadis has deployed and is still deploying the following support for Cerexagri:

• Provided in-depth knowledge on industrial wastewater treatment, to overcome any treatment plant hick-ups that might result from influent fluctuations;

• Advised on treatment optimizations to make the plant resilient to future production (e.g. introduction of new components);

• Contributed to the writing of the new waste water discharge permit, resulting in a smooth permitting process and a good and open relationship with local authorities;

• Investigate possible treatment options for the new wastewater originating from the liquids production;

• Arcadis guide Cerexagri in their communication with local water authorities (Rijkswaterstaat), in the knowledge that this is one of their main business partners and the treatment plant is a license to operate.

As a result, Cerexagri can focus fully on their primary goal of delivering a sustainable contribution to present and future world food supply.
