November 26, 2024 – Arcadis is excited to announce the release of its inaugural 2024 Canada Impact Report: Amplifying Our Impact. The comprehensive report delves into Arcadis Canada's progress in achieving its goals, showcasing milestones, and outlining plans to further magnify its influence in 2025. By effectively measuring and communicating its social impact in Canada, Arcadis sets a benchmark for achieving its vision of improving quality of life by delivering solutions to pressing challenges and acting as a sustainable transformation partner.
At the beginning of 2024, Arcadis Canada set three social impact goals: improve the communities in which we live, work, and play; accelerate a planet-positive future; and be an employer of choice. These goals influenced activity and initiatives across four measurable categories, including accelerating climate change, actioning reconciliation, creating inclusive spaces, and supporting communities.
Driving meaningful change across Canada
Each category has a defined purpose with key performance indicators, benchmarking current initiatives and supporting the implementation of effective practices to drive continued impact.
- Accelerating climate action: Implementing sustainable practices in operations and client solutions, emphasizing greenhouse gas reduction targets, and biodiversity preservation. Arcadis has contributed to the design of leading Passive House projects in Canada, including Harmony Commons and the world’s tallest Passive House building, The Curv.
- Actioning reconciliation: Strengthening partnerships with Indigenous communities through policy development, dedicated teams, scholarship commitments, and meaningful engagements. In 2024, Arcadis signed a three-year commitment to Indspire, with guaranteed matching funds for its Building Brighter Futures scholarship program.
- Creating inclusive spaces: Enhancing policies and practices to foster inclusivity through new Affinity Groups, improved hiring processes, expanded networks, and professional development opportunities. Arcadis Canada launched Canadian chapters of Arcadis’ global Gender and REACH (Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Heritage) Affinity Groups.
- Supporting communities: Empowering our people to volunteer and provide pro bono work, donate to charitable causes, and sponsor local events to foster community engagement and strengthen relationships in our area of operation. Thousands of Arcadians have volunteered for over 200 pro bono community projects with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Jumpstart Charities, and Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.
Scott Arbuckle, Country Director, Arcadis Canada, said, “Our duty lies not in pondering 'if' we can drive change, but in shaping 'how' we do it. I’m incredibly proud of the unwavering dedication our people have shown throughout 2024 to create tangible impacts in communities throughout Canada. Arcadis has a critical role to play in protecting our planet for future generations, and we’ve seen how even the smallest changes and contributions can have the capacity to create a significant impact.”
Looking ahead, Arcadis Canada will continue to build on its momentum and has set several targets within each of its four social impact categories. It has committed to a 70% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2026. Additionally, Arcadis Canada has pledged to donate $264,000 in sponsorships for Indigenous students by 2027, and $250,000 to local charities and other non-profits in 2025. Furthermore, the company has committed to launching Canadian chapters for three additional Affinity Groups.
