Arcadis’ Jennifer Kelly Lachmayr named president of New England Water Environment Association

Lachmayr will focus her efforts on public advocacy and government relations to secure a better future for the water industry

Boston — Jan. 29, 2020 — The New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) appointed Arcadis vice president Jennifer Kelly Lachmayr president today, commencing her two-year leadership of the organization.

As president of NEWEA, Lachmayr will focus her efforts on public advocacy and government relations to secure a better future for the water industry. Specifically, she will lead the organization in driving positive impact and awareness around:

  • Water quality in New England
  • Career opportunities for a more collaborative, diverse and resilient water industry
  • Water infrastructure funding

“Jennifer has been an exemplary volunteer with NEWEA since 1997,” said Mary Barry, executive director of NEWEA. “Her unparalleled energy and strategic vision have been instrumental in advocating for New England’s sustainable water future. Jennifer’s extensive knowledge of regional challenges and innovative, resilient solutions is equal only to her passion for the water environment and the people who care for it.”

A key part of the position will be promoting the role water professionals play in their communities, from protecting water resources and driving innovation to increasing awareness of water’s role in industry.

“The New England Water Environment Association already has a number of initiatives underway to champion investment and awareness around water resources,” said Lachmayr. “I’m excited to push for greater advocacy and outreach, using the combined resources of NEWEA and Arcadis to protect the planet’s most valuable resource.”

Lachmayr brings 30 years of consulting experience to her presidency. Lachmayr has been with Arcadis in Wakefield, Massachusetts, since 2003. She has worked on numerous stormwater master plan, MS4 permit compliance and wholistic resiliency projects, focusing in on the entire water cycle.

As president of NEWEA, Lachmayr looks forward to inspiring all members and water professionals to “advocate, act and be the change.”
