Read Richard's story on forecasting for the future

Access to safe and clean water often means balancing demand with environmental impact. For South West Water, the challenge is particularly great. The region is surrounded by heritage coastlines, a National Park, wildlife and is popular with tourists. Yet they needed to develop more cost-effective investment and maintenance strategies in their underground pipe network, all without harming the environment. Using our Enterprise Decision Analytics® platform and geospatial modelling, we produced an inferred inventory of these buried pipes. We then used deterioration profiles and whole-life costing to forecast performance and evaluate the risks and benefits of replacing pipes. Not only could this save money, but means the local scenery and environment won’t be damaged, and tourism and wildlife can flourish.
