Read Jess's story on engineering the future

It’s not every day that your work attracts the attention of George Osborne, but that’s what happened when the Northern Powerhouse Partnership Chair (NPPC) visited The University of Manchester’s new Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre. We played a leading role in constructing the £60m facility, which will accelerate research and development into graphene and how this revolutionary material might be used – from making stronger and lighter aircrafts to purifying salt water. The NPPC and former Chancellor’s visit underlined how important this project is, supporting the government’s Industrial Strategy and enabling Manchester and the UK to continue world-leading research into graphene and other 2D materials.
