Spitsmijden is an innovative approach to tackling congestion and reducing peak demand on highways by incentivising behavioural change. Using data to target regular peak hour travellers and experimenting to design the most impactful incentive packages to reward them for making different travel choices, Spitsmijden has become an important demand management tool for Dutch road authorities. It's been a rewarding experience to develop new approaches to managing traffic and support clients in preparing for and managing Spitsmijden projects. The end result is that less people are affected by congestion, which has exponential benefits on road users.
