Floriade 2012

Venlo, The Netherlands - A successful world horticultural expo with base for a new sustainable business park. In 2012 the region of Venlo was host to the Floriade, the largest horticultural expo in the world. A 66-hectare site, consisting of woodland and fields, is adapted for this event that lasts for six months. But emphatically for its subsequent purpose: Venlo Greenpark, a high-quality business park for the horticultural sector.

Design

The design team designed five worlds of experience in the existing woodland. These five worlds conveyed the five themes that were central; Education & Innovation, Environment, Green Engine, Relax & Heal and World Show Stage. Not only was the existing woodland integrated into the design, but the historical remains present were also included and transformed into a component of the entire experience. The result was astonishing, at times breathtaking and a real experience for young and old alike; brimming with culture, distinctive gastronomy and spectacular pavilions in a green setting. The Floriade 2012 attracted over two million visitors. They rated the park with an average of 8.5, and CNN placed it in the top ten of the most important events worldwide in 2012.
