Ringwood, Victoria - Ensuring the delivery of a contemporary retail destination and re-imagined Town Square.
A $650M extension of Eastland in Ringwood, Victoria increased its size by approximately half while also adding a new ‘Town Sqaure, a state of the art library called the Realm and an artistic feature at the entrance.
A key design and construction challenge was the inclusion of an extra 135,000m2 suspended slab above two below ground retail levels and expanded basement parking.
As lead structural, civil and façade consultants, Arcadis worked with a broad range of stakeholders to develop a unique, two stage floor slab design and construction system. This included protecting three 100 year old water supply pipelines vital to Melbourne’s CBD supply located adjacent to the construction footprint requiring significant retaining and stabilization support.
The work of a multidisciplinary team was crucial to meeting tight design and construction timelines, including the extensive involvement of the Philippines based Global Excellence Centre for BIM modeling and detail design during construction.
The Eastland redevelopment has revitalized Ringwood, bringing a cutting edge retail, dining and architectural experience to the centre of the city that also provides residents with a vibrant, green town square and a new community asset in the Realm library.
In a sign of the broader impacts of urban renewal, the new look Eastland has already spurred new investment in the suburb evidenced by increased house prices rise as Ringwood becomes a more desirable place to live and work.
