Partnerships

We have a culture of collaboration, believing strongly in the power of partnerships. We work with global organisations and institutions on how we can improve the quality of life.

World Economic Forum
Arcadis is a member of the World Economic Forum (WEF), an organisation that engages with the world’s political and business leaders to shape global, regional and industry agendas. WEF works to define challenges, solutions and actions, always in the spirit of global citizenship.

Our passion "To improve the quality of life and be recognized as the best" aligns perfectly with WEF’s mission: "To improve the state of the world through public-private cooperation". We are active in many of the areas highlighted by WEF in pursuit of their mission.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development
We are active members of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Together with its members, the WBCSD applies its respected thought leadership and effective advocacy to generate constructive solutions and take shared action. The WBCSD is made up of approximately 200 global firms and acts as the voice of business in several bodies (e.g. UN Climate Summit, Sustainability Development Goals). We are involved in the following work streams:

  • Water Cluster
  • Zero Emission Cities Sector Project
  • Energy Efficiency in Buildings
  • Ecosystem & Landscape Management Cluster
  • Redefining Value Cross Cutting Project / Natural Capital Protocol

As part of the Low Carbon Technology Partnership Initiative announced in Paris during the COP21 summit, Arcadis was one of eleven leading companies from the buildings sector to step up to lead action with the aim of reducing the projected energy use in buildings by 50% by 2030. In addition to Arcadis, participants of the program were AkzoNobel, ENGIE, Infosys, LafargeHolcim, Rexel, Schneider Electric, SGS, Siemens, Skanska and United Technologies. Part of WBCSD's Low Carbon Technology Partnerships initiative (LCTPi), the program will bring together stakeholders in local markets to develop a common understanding of market barriers to energy efficiency in buildings and initiate actions to tackle them.

Natural Capital Coalition
The Natural Capital Coalition (NCC) is a global platform which brings together the many different initiatives and organizations working in natural capital under a common vision.

The Coalition’s activities focus on global stakeholder engagement, focused research and development of methods for natural capital accounting. The Coalition’s founding members have pioneered much of the science and business case for natural capital valuation and accounting, providing a credible platform to take the business application of this forward.

We are an active member of the Natural Capital Coalition providing IP, resources and practical support recognizing the value incorporating natural capital in business decisions can bring.

We support the overall vision of the Natural Capital Protocol (NCP) to transform the way business operates through understanding and incorporating their impacts and dependencies on natural capital.

UN Global Compact
We have been a signatory of the UN Global Compact since 2009 and are committed to both its objectives as well as the ten universal principles regarding human rights, labor standards, environmental stewardship, and anticorruption. Our values, mission, and strategy are fully aligned with the UNGC principles, and our signing of these principles reflects our ambition to be a sustainability leader. The way in which we support ad enact these principles are included in our Annual Report.

We are committed to making the UNGC and its principles part of the day-to-day operations of our company.

UN-Habitat
UN-Habitat contributes to one of the most urgent challenges in the world: sustainable urbanization. UN-Habitat’s mission is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities by improving the quality of life of citizens around the world.

Arcadis supports UN-Habitat in facing these urban challenges by sharing our knowledge and expertise on the ground through the Shelter program. This is much more important than just donating money; it is a global partnership that makes a real difference. It’s about protecting the most vulnerable from the elements. It’s about building a better, sustainable future for all our communities.

100 Resilient Cities
Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) is dedicated to helping cities around the world become more resilient to the physical, social and economic challenges that are a growing part of the 21st century.

100RC supports the adoption and incorporation of a view of resiliency that includes the shocks –  earthquakes, fires, floods, etc. – as well as the stresses that weaken the fabric of a city on a day-to-day or cyclical basis.

Through financial and logistical guidance, developing resiliency strategies, providing access to service providers and creating a network of cities that can learn from each other, 100RC aims to facilitate global resiliency among governments, NGOs, the private sector, and citizens.

Lovinklaan Foundation
Lovinklaan was founded in 1982 to promote the interests of Arcadians, to provide for the continuity of Arcadis and to stimulate employees to participate in the Global Share Plan or one of our other programs. With an equity interest in Arcadis NV of over 17 percent, we are the largest shareholder. The returns on this investment, the yearly dividend payment, are used for the benefit of Arcadis and its people all over the world.

With our support of global Arcadis knowledge exchange and innovation programs we stimulate internal synergy and collaboration and make a valuable contribution to the global ambitions of Arcadis and its employees. Our programs challenge Arcadians and reinforce the Arcadis culture. In addition to our existing programs, we continue to look for new opportunities to stimulate innovation, to transfer knowledge, and to connect employees.
