Bowmans Creek Realignment Study

Camberwell, New South Wales, Australia - Environmentally responsible hydraulic advice to maximize long wall coal production in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales.

Combining engineering and high level technical modelling to develop an ecologically robust flood scheme.

To extend Ashton Coal’s productive life a new mine design beneath Bowmans Creek, a tributary of the Hunter River at Camberwell, raised key environmental and regulatory challenges.

Combining hard engineering and high level technical modelling, Arcadis helped to develop an ecologically robust scheme to divert two sections of Bowmans Creek. The new plan closely replicates the existing creek’s operational conditions to ensure flow, stream base and embankment stability, while encouraging fish populations through high water-quality levels.

Working closely with the client’s project team of hydrology and stream hydraulics specialists Arcadis created a cutting edge TUFLOW 3D model to accurately visualise any potential environmental impacts of a re-imagined creek. The 3D model developed by Arcadis was used for construction planning and on site verification.
