Regeneration of Langley Oil Terminal

London, United Kingdom - A long history of fuel storage at the site had led to significant ground contamination, preventing surrender of the site lease and future mixed use redevelopment.

Hectares of brownfield land regenerated

A site exit strategy was needed which met regulatory requirements, managed our client’s long-term environmental liability associated with the ground contamination and enabled the landowner to progress the site redevelopment.

The initial pre-remediation cost estimate including development abnormal costs exceeded £12M. Through use of innovative ground investigation techniques to identify where contamination was present, design and implementation of a sustainable remediation solution together with effective regulatory liaison, the cost of remediation was reduced by more than 50%.

The site exit approach was recognized as best practice when the project was awarded Best Project Closure / Verification Process in the Brownfield Briefing Awards 2014.
