To strengthen our team, we have a position available for a Global Head of Compliance and Privacy Officer.

Reporting lines

The Global Head of Compliance and Privacy Officer reports directly to the Chief Risk Officer of Arcadis NV, with a dotted line to General Counsel & Company Secretary.

Job description

He or she will be responsible for the oversight and management of the integrity program, the privacy program, and compliance obligations in the business, and as Head of Compliance, be the primary Compliance person at Arcadis Headquarters. Together with the Chief Risk Officer, General Counsel and Global HR Director (s)he will form the Corporate Compliance Committee.

More specifically the main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Ongoing development of the company’s compliance and privacy frameworks, including drafting and updating of compliance policies and procedures;
  • Responsibility for driving the effectiveness of these programs, including awareness and compliance training(s), risk assessments linked to opportunities, and running of the integrity monitoring and bi-annual testing program;
  • Working with the Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel on the development and implementation of the global privacy programme;
  • Acting as the central point for data privacy across the business and supporting the mitigation of data privacy risk across the business;
  • Developing and maintaining a network of compliance colleagues across the business who are involved with data privacy;
  • Reporting on Compliance and Privacy matters;
  • Contribution to information governance related initiatives, including information data security. Undertake such other duties as maybe required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the Risk Management function;
  • The role will necessitate travel within the business.


The candidate should have a university degree in Law. A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience of which at least 8 years within an international law firm working for multinational (listed) clients is required. Proven experience in an in-house legal role in our industry is an advantage.

Thorough understanding of anti-corruption law, privacy law, anti-trust law, procurement law, regulatory enforcement and Dutch securities law (disclosure requirements). Knowledge of and experience with data security, sustainability, media exposure, and a good corporate/M&A understanding are strong prerequisites.

Other competencies and qualities should include:

  • Mature personality with strong and independent point of view and proven experience as sparring partner for senior management through knowledge and diplomacy;
  • Sound commercial understanding and strong analytical skills through helicopter view and eye for detail;
  • Pro-active, very hands on and results driven self-starter with strong collaboration and team skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong presentation and report writing skills;
  • Strong programme management skills;
  • Pragmatic and creative problem solving attitude;
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced and continually evolving environment;
  • Pleasant, open and flexible personality with a no-nonsense mentality;
  • Excited to work in a diverse and international environment and willing to travel;
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential.
