Job description

The Computational Design Lead is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Computational and Generative Design technologies and processes within the company across the business lines and services Arcadis undertakes. The Computational Design Lead is responsible in defining the strategy to embrace these new technologies in close relationship with the Global Director Digital Asset Lifecycle, IT and the core/extended Digital and BIM leadership team.

Key activities:

  • Develop an overall strategy, and execution plan to implement Computational and Generative Design within the company;
  • Promote the use of Computational and Generative Design throughout the organization and create awareness around it at all levels of management;
  • Work together with Client facing teams to incorporate and monetize the added value of Computational and Generative Design in our propositions;
  • Strategize and support the rollout of the suitable Computational and Generative Design tools relevant to the Arcadis services;
  • Grow a team of Computational Design experts within the organization especially in the Global Excellence Centers;
  • Drive the development of computational scripts to achieve automatized and advanced analytical tasks typically performed by design team members to improve efficiency and improved workflows;
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams around their specific needs and requirements and where Computational Design can support improvements;
  • Maintain a close and sustainable relationship with technologies / tools suppliers (Autodesk, Bentley, Microsoft, Robert McNell and 3rd party companies);
  • Regularly review the optimal Computational Design related applications that should implemented by Arcadis and develop business cases for new investments;
  • Actively be involved in stay ahead of the future trends around Computation Design and technological disruptions that are affecting the traditional AEC industry practices (I.e.: machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, deep learning, etc..).

Requirements

The candidate should have an AEC related degree and 10+ years of professional experience within the industry. The candidate will also be required to have a specific track record in Computational Design implementation both at a project and an organization level within the AEC industry.

  • Thorough knowledge of Autodesk’s Forge API;
  • Expert level knowledge with Parametric Design: use of Autodesk Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino and or other AEC related visual programming experience;
  • Strong experience with scripting and programming rollout;
  • Competent in one or more text-based scripting languages including C#, Python, VB.Net, Java and Processing;
  • Experience integrating complex datasets into the design process and digital workflow.

  • Strong facilitation and leadership skills: bringing multiple stakeholders from broad backgrounds and positions together towards defined outcomes; Passion for teaching others to understand computation tools;
  • Ability to inspire other colleagues with revolutionary workflows;
  • Self-starter, high energy, can work independently and remotely and comfortable with ambiguity;
  • Flexible and able to work in a rapidly moving and highly demanding environment;
  • Ability to deal with different cultures worldwide (North and South America, Europe, Middle East and Asia);
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills;
  • Proactive, practical, entrepreneurial, open-minded, flexible and creative attitude;
  • Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written;
