Situated on the site of a former brewery, the first block will comprise 130 new apartments and is part of a wider development, which the current strategy proposes will be constructed in three phases. The development will eventually comprise more than 600 new homes, alongside existing student accommodation, a hotel, offices and retail space.
Arcadis was appointed by developer Grosvenor in 2014 to provide full Project Management services for the first phase of development, known as Springside North Block. This included drawing on global knowledge to steer the concept design and quickly incorporate elements from successful Build to Rent schemes in the US.
A key consideration was that the design of the building should allow for as much flexibility as possible and consider the target market, both in the present and how it may evolve going forward. Calling on a detailed knowledge of the residential product, design approach, procurement and contractual procedures, Arcadis was able to help produce an intelligently designed Build to Rent product that, once constructed, will be able to respond to customer needs and requirements as they change over time.
