Possibility to initiate a change in the Czech work culture
When it comes to work culture, there is nothing to lose and much can be gained. Coronavirus tests companies and healthcare systems - and at the same time shows that, contrary to popular belief, it is possible in many cases to work from home. Now we have the opportunity to start changing the Czech work culture. The introduction of flexible, site-independent work can increase the resilience and independence of companies.
The virus poses an extraordinary threat, both from an economic point of view and from a health point of view. Before people can return to work, it is the responsibility of companies to make sure that employees feel safe, healthy and respected. The gradual restart of the economy will therefore be accompanied throughout the months by increased hygiene requirements and requirements for mandatory spacing and wearing of masks.
Hygiene regulations for shared rooms are expected to be revised, leading to stricter cleaning and disinfection plans. New exchange models and distance rules will be introduced, especially in open plan offices and factories. In order to reduce the number of transmission paths, contact intensities have been reduced and many processes have been digitized. Detection of infection and immunity or gateway tests no longer seem to be ruled out.
Gradual return to normal
The most likely scenario for starting the economy is a flexible, gradual opening-up process. In this process, economic interests and health protection must be reconciled. It will be crucial for companies whether or not they can meet the criteria for infection protection. The evaluation will also include the minimum distance between people, their freedom of movement and the maximum number of people per square meter, the availability of the necessary protective clothing and the implementation of hygiene regulations. Workplaces as places for social exchange are likely to be accessible only to a limited extent for the time being.
As a preparatory measure, it is therefore appropriate to review existing structures, analyze the required requirements and move to new occupancy. Understandable accompanying communication not only increases the willingness to actively participate in planned changes, but also improves risk management. Specifications are most likely to be adopted if they are clear, unambiguous and comprehensible.
Virtual and digital collaboration
The rules of the game for our daily work are changing not only from the short term, but also from the medium and long term perspective. For everyone, coronavirus meant physical distancing and increased communication. It has become a driving force for digitization and has accelerated development, which has so far been slowed by reservations and investment fears. The companies and their employees were able to face an exceptional situation and gain positive experience with virtual and digital collaboration. These positive experiences will change the work culture in the long run.
Real estate must also adapt to this new work situation. Demand for digital workplace solutions and more flexible usage concepts will increase, as will a stronger focus on infection protection and hygiene standards. In the medium term, therefore, the technical, organizational and structural challenges associated with the transition to a digital or remote environment and the associated loss of social contacts need to be overcome.
Change in work culture
While adequate infrastructure is being put in place for the new coronavirus-induced way of working, it is also important to prepare for a sustainable change in work culture. Progressive digitization, flexible and independent work and a new work culture have set new standards for designing future-oriented workplace solutions. For example, do we need so many offices in the future? The integration of this cultural change into the relevant corporate goals and strategies will be crucial for the success of this cultural change.
The disruption caused by the pandemic also has a massive impact on the corporate governance culture. It is already clear that managing virtual teams requires moderation instead of control, giving freedom instead of restrictions. This spirit of modern, future-oriented and trustworthy management is on the way and will have a lasting impact on the corporate culture of many companies.
