Arcadis appointed to provide cost estimation services for Auckland International Airport

Arcadis, the leading global Design & Consultancy organization for natural and built assets, today announced that Auckland International Airport had appointed them to provide cost estimation services for the proposed Second Runway Expansion.

The second runway, which will be 2,983m in length, will be located to the north of the new combined domestic and international terminal and will run parallel with the existing southern runway. Building this runway will support New Zealand’s trade and tourism growth as well as providing overall greater operational resilience.

Auckland Airport has continuously evolved and grown from only several hundred thousand passengers in 1966 to more than 20 million by 2018.  By 2044 passenger numbers are predicted to increase to more than 40 million per year.

Matthew Mackey, National Director – Cost & Commercial, Arcadis: “We are extremely proud to be involved in such an important project for New Zealand that will aid in the continued evolution and growth of the Airport and will improve the quality of life for passengers and the community.”

The runway is expected to be operational by 2032.
