Somerset College

Australia - Classed as a premier sporting complex, the Somerset sports precinct upgrade was key to enhancing the school’s sport and recreational facilities. The new works included international standard netball and basketball courts, a fitness center, IAAF accredited 10-lane running track, Olympic sized swimming pool, tennis courts, international standard practice field and indoor rock climbing.

IAFF accredited running track with flood plain immunity

Providing students and the community with access to first-class health, well-being, and sporting facilities.

Arcadis were commissioned to provide civil engineering and flood plain management consultancy, design and construction management for the new running track and practice field. The site was low lying and prone to regular flooding, as well as been encumbered by trunk electrical, sewerage and recycled water infrastructure. The project therefore required detailed coordination with school, local Council, Power Link and SEQWater to take on board all stakeholder constraints and ensure the IAAF accredited sports field was delivered on time and budget.

Arcadis successfully balanced these considerations to ensure flood plain characteristics were not adversely altered next to the adjacent protected waterways, the IAAF accredited sports field was provided appropriate flood immunity to limit potential exposure to damaging flood waters, SEQWater’s recycled trunk pipelines were protected, and the integrity of Power Link assets retained.
