km of rail trackArcadis was appointed on this 350km long High Speed Rail project from Taipei to Kaohsiung in Taiwan, This was one of the largest construction projects in the world at that time and helped to address significant congestion on the existing transport network and improve the connectivity across the country.
This was a very structure-intensive piece of railway, with not only viaducts and tunnels but also numerous underpasses, overbridges, extensive drainage works, road diversions and canal realignments. To meet the very rigorous seismic design criteria, as well as the very demanding performance standard required for a high speed railway, we formed a team of about 30 colleagues based in Taiwan who adopted the client's global design and documentation management software.
Arcadis was also entrusted to provide planning support for the Taichung Station along the route, was responsible for all project planning operations on behalf of the Contractor and for notifying and analyzing delays and preparing extension of time claims.
