Creating a City for Future Generations

New York City is the global hub of international business and commerce. The city’s comprehensive plan, PlaNYC, is focused on improving the quality of life for generations to come in the Big Apple.

The plan sets out targets to have the cleanest air in the nation, fortify waterfronts and waterways, clean contaminated land, and ensure all New Yorkers live within a 10-minute walk of a park. Originally launched in 2007, the plan is overseen by the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and the Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency.

Arcadis is assisting in PlaNYC by helping develop resilient solutions. With our proposals on bridge protection, stormwater drains, and green infrastructure, New York could protect some of its most vulnerable assets and its inhabitants from the devastation storms can cause, especially as they grow in frequency and intensity.

PlaNYC continues to drive sustainability improvements, for example on the housing front, the New York City Economic Development Corporation is facilitating the creation of new transit-oriented neighborhoods with affordable housing and community amenities on formerly underutilized sites. Arcadis has a long history in New York to help the city evolve and be more competitive and livable, from upgrading its largest wastewater treatment plant to helping protect subway stations from floods.

Arcadis is pleased to partner with and improve quality of life in New York City.
