Improving quality of life in Chicago

A City of Strength and Reputation

Chicago is not only a national transportation, industrial, telecommunications, and financial leader but also a city of great architectural significance, ethnic diversity, and cultural wealth.

The only inland urban area to rank with major East and West Coast cities, the city has achieved international status. Not only an economic powerhouse, the city of Chicago takes sustainability seriously, ranking number one in LEED certified buildings, with 26 miles of public lakefront and home to multiple clean energy companies.

Chicago sits on the shores of Lake Michigan, one of the largest bodies of freshwater on Earth.  Arcadis' first project in Chicago was in 1893 for the Colombian Exposition Sewage Treatment Plant.  In the 21st century, with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Arcadis is still assisting in managing the treatment of the water in the city. We also helped Chicago achieve its goal to become a hub for growing a sustainable economy, and accelerate it by enabling people and companies to adopt sustainable practices. The 31st Street Harbor project, managed by Arcadis, allowed an under-utilized space to transform into a sustainable, LEED gold space to serve as a community park while updating the infrastructure of the area. More than $8 billion in public/private investments will be made over the next decade for sustainability in the city.

Arcadis is pleased to partner with and improve quality of life in Chicago.
